First Human Injected With Cancer-Killing Virus

The first human has been injected with a new cancer-killing virus, known as Vaxinia. The virus itself is a new experimental cancer treatment designed to attack cancer cells. The treatment was previously tested in animals and showed promising results in shrinking tumors. The cancer-killing virus has shown it can reduce the size of lung, breast, ovarian, pancreatic, and colon cancer tumors. The virus has been engineered to also make cancer cells more recognizable to the body’s immune system. Researchers hope this will improve patients’ chance of fighting back against cancer. Currently, the drug is being tested in a Phase 1 trial of just 100 patients who have metastatic or advanced solid tumors. The trial is expected to be completed by early 2025.
